Wissahickon Avenue Bridge Replacement

The original bridge was posted at 3 tons then closed in 2000.  The Township working in conjunction with Merck funded the replacement of this bridge to handle increased traffic being created by the nearby expanding Merck facility.

The Township required a quick turnaround in design and permitting and utilized the Township Engineer and Wilson Consulting to get the job done.

Permits and design were completed in 2001 and the bridge was bid for construction in the spring of 2002.  Construction was completed in July 2002.

Wilson Consulting provided the following services:

  • Sizing of the bridge opening and typical section
  • Hydraulic Analysis using HEC-RAS
  • Preliminary Design
  • Utility Coordination – structure attachments
  • Foundation Submission
  • Final Design and Plans
  • Construction Consultation and Shop Drawing Review
